Travin Howard was born on May 10, 1996, in Longview, Texas, United States. He played safety at Longview High School and earned District Defensive MVP honours as a senior for the Lobos in 2013.
Travin Howard verbally committed to play at Texas Christian University (TCU) where he played college football. He had signed his national letter of intent with the Horned Frogs on February 5, 2014.
Travin Howard earned Defensive MVP honours in the Frogs’ triple-overtime victory over Oregon in the 2015 Alamo Bowl. He was named first-team All-Big 12 in both seasons and again earned Defensive MVP honours in his final collegiate game, a win over Stanford in the 2017 Alamo Bowl.
